Veronicastrum virginicum 'Adoration'
Height x Spread: 120cm x 45cm
'Adoration' puts on a fantastic late summer display of slender finger-like spikes of lilac-pink flowers arranged in neat whorls down its elegant stems, slowly opening from the top flowers downwards as the garden moves from midsummer into autumn.
A strong growing form of 'culvers root', it clumps up quickly to form an imposing plant that is not only perfect for adding delicate vertical punctuation at the back of a mixed or herbaceous border but also offers interesting foliage prior to flowering and valuable seedheads. Preferring a fairly fertile, damp but free-draining soil in dappled shade but tolerant of more sun, it makes a great succession plant for Digitalis purpurea forms which thrive in the same conditions, both plants being veritable bee magnets.
