Vernonia noveboracensis — New York Ironweed — is a tall, statuesque North American native that brings rich late-season colour to the back of a border or bog garden. In late summer and autumn, dense clusters of tiny, fluffy red-violet flowers appear atop sturdy stems clad in green, lance-shaped foliage — a striking combination that is highly attractive to bees and butterflies.
Often found growing naturally alongside watercourses in its native USA, it flourishes in moist soils in sun or partial shade. An excellent choice for waterside planting, prairie schemes, and wildlife gardens.
