Symphyotrichum novi-belgii ‘Janet McMullen’ is a well-formed Michaelmas Daisy bearing semi-double lilac flowers with a golden-yellow centre that deepens to reddish-orange once pollinated — a subtle but charming detail that adds interest as the display progresses from late summer through to mid-autumn.

It combines well with the soft plumes of Pennisetum and other autumn-flowering Symphyotrichum, creating a cohesive late-season border. It thrives in moist, fertile soil in full sun.

  • Care Guide:

Divide clumps every 3–4 years to maintain vigour — any time after flowering but spring is preferred. Cut back stems after flowering in autumn. Taller selections may require staking. Symphyotrichum novi-belgii cultivars benefit from good air circulation to help prevent mildew.

  • Good to Know

Pollinator-friendly — the flowers attract bees and other pollinators; the central disc turns from yellow to brown once pollinated.

Vigorous and long-lived; clumps bulk up well over time.
