Veronicastrum virginicum ‘Cupid’ stands out from other forms of the species for its chunkier flower spikes — intense purple in bud, opening to deep lavender-blue — arranged in whorls around the stem like satellites around a planet.
This rich, almost luminous display lasts from July through September, with spikes further down the stem opening as summer progresses. Tough and hardy, ‘Cupid’ adds height and strong vertical interest to the back of a border, while its nectar-rich flowers make it a magnet for bees. An excellent cut flower too. Performs best in moist but free-draining soil in sun or partial shade.
