A very useful semi-evergreen grass that every gardener should have on their 'go-to' list, 'Aureum' is sought after for its attractive bright yellow foliage that emerges in spring forming striking clumps before maturing to a fresh green. These are topped off by lots of delicate flowerheads in summer.
Showcased by Rosy Hardy in her 2016 RHS Chelsea Show Garden, it prefers a dappled or partially shaded site in a fairly fertile good soil - moist but well-drained - but can cope with more sun if the soil never dries out. Perfect for lighting up a woodland scheme or slightly gloomier areas of the garden, its colour really draws the eye. Use it to line a path through trees or highlight other plants such HOSTA, POLYGANATUM and MAIANTHEMUM. It also makes a great choice for a north or east facing planter away from the hot midday sun.
