Eragrostis spectabilis
Height x spread: 50cm x 50cm
Also known as purple love grass, this clump-forming deciduous grass forms mounds of flat, narrow leaves from springtime. In the late summer, arching airy and delicate purple flowers top off the foliage. The flowers fade to brown in autumn, but sparkle in the autumn dew and winter frost.
A native of Michigan, North America, this plant is perfect for a naturalistic prairie style garden mixed with other ornamental grasses, or for coastal gardens and rockeries. It thrives in full sun and in well-drained poor soil, and once established will tolerate periods of drought.
Cut down in late winter to enable fresh growth to emerge in spring.
