Pennisetum alopecuroides 'Hameln'
Height x Spread: 60cm x 60cm
Striking and effervescent, 'Hameln' boasts lush clumps of arching linear foliage above which bottle-brush spikes of pale silver explode in summer like fireworks before fading to buff in the autumn. In common with other forms of 'Chinese Fountain Grass', its value in the garden lasts far beyond the summer as it stays upright throughout the winter and looks particularly stunning dusted with frost.
Perfect for adding delicacy and movement to a border, it combines beautifully with perennials such as Achillea, Hylotelephium and Scabiosa. Or for drama plant it in large drifts through a gravel garden mixing it with Geranium sanguineum, Artemisia and Iberis. easy to grow, hold on cutting back this deciduous grass until April as the frosts can damage its crown. It thrives in a fertile, free draining soil in full sun.
