Ipheion ‘Alberto Castillo’ — Starflower — is a summer-deciduous bulb that dies back after flowering and reappears in winter, so resist the urge to disturb it during its dormant period. In late winter and early spring it produces masses of dainty, honey-scented white flowers over narrow, grass-like foliage with a faint onion fragrance. An RHS Award of Garden Merit holder.
It thrives in a sunny spot in moisture-retentive but well-drained soil, and is perfect for gravel gardens, alpine beds, and containers — providing some of the earliest colour of the season.
