Astrantia major
Height x Spread: 60cm x 60cm
This species of Astrantia is the most widely used as a breeding base for coloured varieties. Its delicate flowers are white, with green tips and veins, held on wiry stems above attractive green foliage.
Reliable and tough, it is often planted in front of roses to disguise the shrub's less attractive lower legs, or with Allium bulbs to hide their fading foliage. Long flowering, a quick tidy up of spent blooms will encourage new growth. A very good cut flower.
This good garden plant will create generous clumps in a fertile, moisture retentive soil, in sun or partial shade.
