Caltha palustris
Height x Spread: 50cm x 50cm
A herbaceous perennial that is native to the UK Caltha palustris is suited to a sunny position in wet, boggy soil, water margins and pond side settings. Cup shaped bright yellow or sometimes white flowers appear in Spring over glossy kidney shaped leaves and are a great source of pollen and nectar for beneficial insects.
Soil pH is not important, but high moisture levels are paramount. This plant will produce viable seeds and rhizomes but is not considered invasive. Slowly over time it creates clumps of growth that are easy to manage.
The sap from this plant can be an irritant and the plant should not be consumed by people or animals.
