Convallaria majalis 'Hardwick Hall'
Height x Spread: 30cm x 20cm
This is a tough spreading, herbaceous perennial with long, bright green, ovate leaves with a pale, yellow margin.
The flowers are larger than those of a normal Lilly of the Valley, and are produced from April into May on long stems that arch gracefully above the foliage. Highly scented, the flowers also attract the attention of bees which love the large amounts of nectar and pollen produced.
Ideal as woodland or ground cover plants, they need moist but well drained, humus rich soil in full to part shade. They are fantastic for underplanting shrubs and trees and can be placed in any reasonable soil.
Clumps can be divided and replanted in Autumn when the leaves start to die back.
Toxic if ingested by humans or pets, so care should be taken when handling.
