Gladiolus 'Ruby' (_papilio_ hybrid)

Spikes of large, ruby red hooded flowers with dark centres, are held on sturdy stems above green sword-like leaves in late summer. Much sought after for its stunning and frankly gorgeous colour, this hybrid is more delicate in appearance than other garden forms of Gladiolus.
It definitely draws the eye when planted in a border and would enhance any courtyard, cottage or coastal garden. It also makes a great container plant for a terrace. In winter in colder areas, protect the crown with mulch or move the pot to a greenhouse. It grows best in a fertile, free draining soil in full sun.
