Knautia macedonica
Height x Spread: 60cm - 75cm x 75cm
Native to central Europe this clump-forming perennial is commonly known as the Macedonian Scabious. Masses of dark crimson pin-cushion flowers are held on thin wiry stems above mounds of green foliage in midsummer.
Knautia macedonica performs best in full sun, it needs a fertile free-draining soil. It may require some additional support either from neighbouring plants or peasticks. Its relaxed habit suits cottage gardens and informal planting schemes, plant it either towards the middle of the border or allow it to billow out over pathways to soften the edges of your borders.
