Commonly known as 'Sweet Cicely', this Myrrhis bears delicate white umbelliferous flowers above finely cut fern-like foliage, that are followed by fruits. Aromatic foliage. Traditionally the aniseed flavoured leaves were widely used to add sweetness to fruit and depth to savoury dishes.
This early summer flowering herb, much beloved by pollinators, is ideal for a lightly shaded area of the garden or planted in naturalistic drifts in dappled woodland. A prolific self-seeder, cut back after flowering to reduce seedlings. It grows best in light shade in a fairly fertile, free draining soil that retains some moisture.
