Sanguisorba tenuifolia 'Pink Elephant'
Height x Spread: 175cm x 90cm
This cultivar of 'oriental burnet' bears long, frothy, raspberry red flower spikes, that bob and weave on tall stems, above attractively cut grey-green leaves. Native to damp meadows and streams in Japan, this very hardy plant. Gauze-like in appearance, this tough plant is very useful for layering in a garden or border, adding spots of rich pink colour at high level without supporting bulky foliage below.
It looks most effective weaving through a planting scheme, subtly drawing the eye across the garden, or planted close to water, where its delicate form can be highlighted. Low maintenance, just cut down the previous year's growth close to the ground in March. For the best results, grow it in a fairly fertile, moist soil that is not waterlogged in full sun or part shade.
