Rudbeckia triloba 'Prairie Glow'
Height x Spread: 120cm x 80cm
Ever so pretty, 'Prairie Glow' produces masses of small bi-coloured daisy flowers, each reddish-orange with yellow tips encircling a dark brown central cone, held aloft on branching fuzzy stems. Long flowering from July into October, as individual blooms fade they become rustier, creating a gorgeous multi-tonal effect like an impressionist painting.
As its name suggests, it works really well in a prairie themed planting scheme combined with Symphyotrichum turbinellum and dark ornamental grasses. Perfect too for injecting rich late summer colour into a border, it sings out against the dark red foliage of Physocarpus opulifolius 'Lady In Red'. It prefers a free-draining soil in a sunny spot and although a short-lived perennial, it will reseed itself.
