Adenophora — Ladybells — is a genus of around 40 species of deciduous perennials native to temperate Europe, Asia, China, and Japan, they can be found growing in grassy places and open woods. They are closely related to and visually similar to Campanula. Upright, columnar stems carry terminal panicles or racemes of delicate, nodding, bell-shaped flowers in shades of violet-blue or white in summer — elegant, understated, and excellent as long-lasting cut flowers.
Best when grown in deep, rich, moist but well-drained soil in full sun or light shade. Adenophora dislikes disturbance once established, so choose your planting position carefully and leave well alone — it will reward you with years of reliable performance.
A refined choice for cottage garden and informal border planting. Combines well with Campanula, Geranium, Salvia, and Penstemon.
