Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
Penstemon hartwegii ‘Albus’ bears slender, creamy-white flowers like miniature trombones, dangling in small clusters along slim, upright stems from summer into mid-autumn. Bushy in habit, it has narrow, pale green foliage.
It combines well with soft pinks, whites and fresh greens, while its pale flowers also provide highlights among richer colours. Planted in groups towards the front of a border, it suits a naturalistic planting style.
It prefers sun or partial shade in fertile, free-draining soil.
Hardiness: H4 (−10°C to −5°C). Hardy through most UK winters. Provide winter protection in colder inland, upland or northern gardens; plants in pots are more vulnerable to frost.

Care Guide:
Deadhead regularly to encourage further flowering. Leave the top growth in place over winter to help protect the crown, then cut back hard in spring after the last frosts. Take soft-tip cuttings in early summer or semi-ripe cuttings in midsummer as insurance against winter losses.
