Commonly known as the Parrot Lily, Alstroemeria psittacina bears flaring, reddish-purple tubular flowers with green tips and a throat streaked dark red, held well above tidy clumps of dark green foliage.
Long-flowering and well suited to the middle of a border or as a statement plant in a container, it establishes quickly and will need dividing every two to three years to maintain vigour — best done in spring. It tolerates partial shade in fertile, moisture-retentive soil.
