Baptisia ‘Pink Lemonade’ (Decadence Deluxe Series) is the first bicolour in the Decadence range — and a showstopper. From late spring to early summer, soft yellow flowers age to dusty raspberry-purple on striking charcoal stems, with both colours appearing on the spike simultaneously for a uniquely layered effect. Blue-green, clover-like foliage completes the picture, and large seed pods follow after flowering.
Happiest in poor, free-draining, neutral to acidic soil in full sun — avoid rich or clay soils. The clump takes up to three years to fully establish, sending down a long taproot that makes it impressively drought tolerant once settled. Avoid root disturbance. Branched stems rarely require staking unless grown in nutrient-rich soil. A long-lived, low-maintenance perennial with real structural presence — a fine substitute for a shrub in a sunny mixed border. Butterflies love it.
Note: avoid planting near black walnut (Juglans nigra) — chemicals from the roots can cause Baptisia to struggle.
