Symphyotrichum novi-belgii 'Priory Blush' is a double-flowered Michaelmas Daisy dating from the 1960s and deserving of far wider recognition. From September into October — and sometimes beyond — its individual flower heads open to form a deep ruff of neat petals in soft blush pink, flattening and fading to pale pink as they mature.

For contrast of flower shape and colour, combine it with single-flowered selections such as S. 'Oktoberlicht', Chrysanthemum 'Ruby Mound', and ornamental grasses. A strong choice for a cottage garden or herbaceous border, with so many blooms per stem and excellent vase life, it is also well suited to a cutting garden. It thrives in sun or light shade in fertile, moist but well-drained soil.

  • Care Guide:

Divide clumps every 3–4 years to maintain vigour — any time after flowering but spring is preferred. Cut back stems after flowering in autumn. Taller selections may require staking. Symphyotrichum novi-belgii cultivars benefit from good air circulation to help prevent mildew.

  • Good to Know

Pollinator-friendly — the flowers attract bees and other pollinators; the central disc turns from yellow to brown once pollinated.

Vigorous and long-lived; clumps bulk up well over time.
