Symphyotrichum novi-belgii ‘Schöne von Dietlikon’ offers one of the most striking colour combinations in the autumn garden — deep violet petals surrounding a golden-yellow centre, set against fresh green foliage. Reliably free-flowering, each plant produces a dense, luminous haze of blooms that builds in intensity through September and October.

Lean into the richness by pairing it with other jewel tones: deep purples, blues, golden yellows, ambers, and pinks. An autumn garden offers many candidates — Rudbeckia, Vernonia, Hesperantha, and Ceratostigma among them. Mildew-resistant and robust, it thrives in sun in fertile, moist but well-drained soil.
