Symphyotrichum novi-belgii 'Schöne von Dietlikon'

With its drop dead gorgeous colour combination of deep violet petals, golden yellow centre and fresh green foliage, 'Schone von Dietlikon' is one of the most eye-catching stars of a late summer/autumn garden.  Reliably free flowering, the intense haze of colour produced by the cloud of blooms on each plant is quite mesmeric.

Build on this richness by combining it with other jewel colours such as deep purples, blues, golden yellows, ambers and pinks.  Fortunately an autumn garden has so many to choose from - Rudbeckia, Vernonia, Hesperantha and Ceratostigma to name a few.  Mildew resistant and tough, it thrives in the sun in any fertile, moist, reasonable soil.
