100% Peat Free Pollinator Friendly

Symphyotrichum oblongifolium ‘October Skies’ produces soft lilac-blue daisy flowers with warm yellow centres over grey-green foliage from late summer into autumn. Compact and bushy in habit, it forms a neat clump of lance-shaped, slightly hairy leaves on upright stems and is notably more drought tolerant than most asters.

Well suited to the front of a border or gravel garden, it combines well with ornamental grasses, Hylotelephium, and other autumn-flowering asters. It thrives in fertile, moist but well-drained, neutral to alkaline soil in full sun or partial shade. Mulch in autumn and avoid sites prone to winter waterlogging.

  • Care Guide:

Divide clumps every 3–4 years to maintain vigour — any time after flowering but spring is preferred. Cut back stems after flowering in autumn. Taller selections may require staking. Symphyotrichum novi-belgii cultivars benefit from good air circulation to help prevent mildew.

  • Good to Know

Pollinator-friendly — the flowers attract bees and other pollinators; the central disc turns from yellow to brown once pollinated.

Vigorous and long-lived; clumps bulk up well over time.
