Galium odoratum — Sweet Woodruff — bears clusters of small, starry white flowers above spreading, lush green whorled foliage in spring and early summer. The leaves carry a distinctive sweet, hay-like fragrance, particularly noticeable when dried.
A lovely woodland plant for illuminating shaded corners of the garden. It makes excellent ground cover beneath deciduous shrubs and trees, and looks charming in woodland and wildlife garden schemes. Thrives in any reasonably free-draining soil that retains some moisture, in partial shade.
