Ceratostigma plumbaginoides
Height x Spread: 45cm x 30cm
The jewel bright colour combination of this low spreading herbaceous perennial is quite wonderful with vivid blue flowers produced from late summer into autumn highlighted by red stems and green oval leaves which take on fiery autumnal hints as the season progresses.
Very versatile, it makes beautiful but ruthlessly successful weed smothering ground cover and is perfect for the front of a border or planted en masse. Its slightly lax habit and preference for a fairly nutrient-rich free draining soil also makes it a shoe-in for adding late season colour to a planter or raised bed helping to soften the edges. It thrives in full sun but can tolerate part shade too.
