A semi cactus cultivar, 'Shandy' bears flowerheads of tawny orange petals tinged rose-pink on reddish brown stems over leafy mid-green foliage. An unusual Dahlia, it combines well with pinks, purples and browns.
Being less showy than other more flamboyant cultivars, it would look lovely at the front of a border in an informal planting scheme. It cuts extremely well for arrangements. To perform successfully, 'Shandy' should be planted in a well-drained soil enriched with humus in full sun. In colder areas lift, dry and store tubers frost-free once foliage has been blackened by autumn frosts. In milder areas, tubers can be left in if their crown is protected by mulch.
