Saponaria officinalis 'Rosea Plena' (d)
Height x Spread: 60cm x 60cm
This form of 'soapwort' bears strongly scented, double rose-pink flowers, in clusters on Dianthus-like stems with narrow pale green foliage. A classic cottage garden plant, it flowers its socks off from mid summer through autumn, adding delicious scent to the front of a border or wildflower area.
Alternatively plant it in containers around a terrace or favourite bench, where you can fully appreciate the flower and scent combination. Good for cutting and drying, bees and butterflies love it too. After flowering, trim the plant back hard to a neat shape to encourage a second flush. To get the best results, grow it in any well drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
