Bold and architectural, Klasea bulgarica really stands out from the crowd with its large white thistle flowers carried in small groups atop tall stems from late summer into autumn. Its mid green dagger-like foliage is distinctively serrated too, contrasting with the delicacy of the flower.
Hailing from Eastern Europe, it thrives in a light free draining soil in full sun. A wonderful specimen plant for a gravel garden, casting statuesque shadows, it also combines well with ornamental grasses in prairie planting, its attractive seed heads adding interest long into early winter.
