Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
The bold spikes of white flowers with contrasting purple bracts are at their best in mid summer, displayed to advantage above large well-divided dark green leaves.
This is a striking architectural plant for the middle of a herbaceous border, but is also well suited to a Mediterranean planting scheme. An excellent cut flower. It does prefer a reasonable soil in full sun, but can tolerate a bit of dappled shade.

Care Guide:
Acanthus thrives in full sun to light shade in free-draining soil and must not sit wet over winter. Once established it makes excellent ground cover and is best left undisturbed. Propagate from root cuttings — note that any roots left behind when moving plants will regrow, so choose your site carefully before planting.

Good to Know:
Wildlife-friendly — the tall flower spikes are a favourite of bumblebees and long-tongued pollinators.
Long-lived and easy to grow once established. -
