Ajuga retans 'Catlins Giant'

In late spring big blue flower spikes are held upright above the glossy, metallic purple leaves that hug the ground.  

This lustrous foliage looks good throughout the rest of the year, making them ideal plants to grow beneath shrubs or trees, or to combine with contrasting foliage such as ivy, Epimediumand Lamium maculatum in a winter planter. Easy to grow, it will happily sprawl, but a quick trim will keep it in check.  It prefers soil with a good organic content and a semi-shady position.
