Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
Chives are often grown purely for the kitchen, but their pale purple pom-pom flowers put on a wonderful display in summer that deserves equal billing. Tough and hardy, simply cut them back after the first flush for a second wave of flowers. They bulk up quickly, and the clumps can be divided easily.
Ideal for a sunny windowbox near the kitchen door or a herb garden, they also make excellent edging for a well-drained border or path, drawing bees in their droves. They combine beautifully with oranges and reds — try Geum ‘Scarlet Tempest’ — as well as whites, pinks and blues.
Best planted in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun.
