Allium wallichii flowers in August and September, its attractive, star-like purple flowers held in loose, spherical umbels each up to 7cm across. Best in free-draining soil in full sun; if conditions suit, it may self-seed. Hardy to between -15°C and -20°C.
It combines beautifully with so many garden colours — go bold and mix it with oranges and blues for a vibrant effect, or plant it with whites and pinks for a classic country garden look.
