Althaea cannabina

Althaea cannabina is an architectural perennial for the middle to back of the border, with a light, airy branching habit that gives it a naturalistic, almost transparent quality.

It thrives in full sun and free-draining, preferably alkaline soil. Note that the basal foliage differs markedly from the leaves on the flowering stems — don’t be fooled into thinking you have two different plants!
