A glossy evergreen fern from East Asia, Arachniodes simplicior bears a striking pale midrib line on shiny, mid- to dark-green, triangular fronds. Best in partial shade on moist but well-drained soil; hardy to -10°C in a sheltered, free-draining site. Remove old or damaged fronds at the base in spring before new growth emerges.
It spreads slowly via short rhizomes and spores. Ideal for woodland-style gardens, containers and winter flower arranging, it looks wonderful alongside Hosta, Helleborus, primroses and Pulmonaria.
