Commonly known as the Italian Aster, Aster amellus 'King George' produces beautiful large lilac daisy flowers in profusion in late summer, each with a golden-yellow centre that glows in the autumn light.
It combines beautifully with yellows — definitely try it with Rudbeckia — as well as deep purples, whites, and ornamental grasses. A further asset is its mildew resistance, and bees and butterflies are drawn to the flowers for their generous pollen and nectar. Best in full sun in a free-draining soil.
