Aster amellus ‘September Glow’ is a classic Italian aster producing large, single daisy flowers in a warm lilac — often described as blue, but distinctly and delightfully lilac in tone — with a bright golden-yellow central disc. Flowering from late summer into autumn, it is one of the most valuable plants for extending the border season and is much loved by late-flying bees and butterflies.
Slightly taller than many in the amellus group, it sits well in the middle of a sunny border. Unlike the mildew-prone novi-belgii asters, A. amellus varieties are largely trouble-free. Best in free-draining soil in full sun — it dislikes heavy, wet conditions.
