A vigorous, clump-forming perennial, Aster × frikartii 'Wunder von Stäfa' has dark green, lanceolate foliage and tall, branching stems. The large, daisy-like flowers have blue petals around a central disc of yellow fading to rusty orange, each up to 5cm across.
Best in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun with good airflow to help avoid mildew. Fully hardy in the UK as long as the plant is not subjected to prolonged winter wet. Deadhead spent stems to prevent self-seeding, as seedlings will not come true; cutting back long stems also helps to avoid wind rock in winter. Divide in early spring once established.
An excellent pollinator-friendly plant for borders, containers and cutting, with long-lasting blooms on strong stems.
