This form of Astrantia comes from the Alpine regions of Europe including Italy, Austria and, as the names suggests, Germany. Happy in alkaline conditions, it has a long flowering season, from April to November. The flowers are held on upright stems and are long lasting. When the flowers are finished cut the stems down to the base to encourage new shoots. Happy in full sun to partial shade, they should not be allowed to dry out completely, but are also not particularly demanding.

The pin-cushion like flowers are white with a green tinge to the bracts and can develop pink tinges as the flowers age. A great plant for beetle pollinators.
