Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
Astrantia bavarica comes from the alpine regions of Europe, including Italy, Austria and, as the name suggests, Bavaria. It has a remarkably long flowering season, from April to November, with pin-cushion-like white flowers tinged green at the bracts, which can develop pink tints as they age. Flowers are held on upright stems and are long-lasting.
Tolerant of alkaline conditions and happy in full sun to partial shade, it should not be allowed to dry out completely but is otherwise undemanding. When flowering is over, cut stems down to the base to encourage new shoots. A great plant for beetle pollinators.
