An elegant and hardy deciduous fern for part to full shade, on moist but well-drained soil. Adding humus-rich, well-rotted compost before planting is always welcome. Happiest in neutral to acid conditions, it will also tolerate slightly alkaline soil.
Ideal for shady areas beneath deciduous trees or shrubs, or mossy corners of the garden. Bright lime-green when it emerges each spring, the fronds darken to mid-green in part shade, forming a dense clump of finely cut, arching, glossy growth that is most attractive. This plant is deciduous.
A great way to add structure and softness to a shady spot, this tough, low-maintenance plant provides a beautiful backdrop for shade-loving companions such as Geranium 'Patricia', Gillenia, Geranium psilostemon, Helleborus, and Silene fimbriata, to name but a few.
