Baptisia australis

In early summer this 'False Indigo' plant displays spikes of intense indigo blue flowers that stand proudly above clumps of attractive blue green clover-like foliage.

Its alternative common name 'False Lupin' hints at its resemblance to a Lupin but this plant can tolerate far drier soils. Long pea-like seed pods give added value in autumn. This plant prefers full sun and a well-drained soil. With time and establishment it can tolerate periods of drought. A useful plant for sunny banks, as well as informal garden schemes
