Baptisia ‘Carolina Moonlight’ is a clump-forming False Indigo — also known as False Lupine — producing erect spikes of soft butter-yellow, lupin-like flowers above blue-green, clover-like foliage from late spring to early summer. The inflated seed pods that follow turn charcoal black as they ripen, adding a further season of ornamental interest.
Best in full sun in deep, well-drained soil, it develops a substantial taproot over time and is best left undisturbed once established — patience is rewarded with an increasingly impressive clump. Once settled in, it has good drought tolerance and is a long-lived, low-maintenance addition to borders and prairie planting schemes alike.
