Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
Baptisia ‘Chocolate Chip’ is a clump-forming False Indigo with upright stems bearing leaves divided into three blue-green, clover-like leaflets. In late spring and early summer, tall clusters of purple-brown buds open to reveal soft yellow flowers — an unusual and quietly beautiful combination. Dark grey seed pods follow in autumn, adding a further season of interest.
Wait until the foliage has blackened before cutting it down. A versatile, low-maintenance plant that suits borders, cottage gardens and prairie planting alike, it thrives in full sun in well-drained soil.
