Slender spires of soft pink flowers rise above the foliage from summer through into early autumn, giving this clump-forming perennial an exceptionally long season of interest. Commonly known as Bistort, ‘Rosea’ has pointed, mid-green oval leaves that clasp the stems — a characteristic reflected in the species name amplexicaulis.
The species is native to the Himalayas; ‘Rosea’ is a selected cultivar valued for its soft pink flower colour. It thrives in sun or partial shade with moisture-retentive soil, tolerating wet conditions well — perfect for beds and borders, the edges of streams or ponds, and bog gardens. Slowly spreads over time — best given room to grow.
