Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
New growth emerges on reddish stems, tightly coiled and flushed bronze before unfurling into spreading, ladder-like pinnate fronds of deep, glossy green. The erect fertile fronds stand above the mat of spreading sterile growth, giving the plant a characteristic two-tier habit. A compact, evergreen fern that slowly spreads to form a dense, weed-suppressing carpet.
Known as the Alpine Water Fern, it is ideal for reliably moist, shaded spots — woodland planting, the edges of streams or ponds, or any damp corner where little else will thrive. It prefers acid to neutral soil.
