A compact, deciduous shrub bearing clusters of vivid blue flowers that open from deep indigo-blue buds — and unlike most Caryopteris, ‘First Choice’ begins flowering in late spring, up to three months ahead of the rest. Flowering continues right through to September, making it one of the longest-performing shrubs in its genus. An RHS Award of Garden Merit plant.
Bees and other pollinators find it irresistible throughout its long season. The grey-green foliage is handsome throughout, and the compact habit makes it an excellent choice for patio containers. It can be transplanted into a sunny border in autumn for a more permanent home.
Grow in full sun in a free-draining but moisture-retentive soil. Hardy in normal winter conditions, though a little shelter from the hardest frosts is beneficial.
