Chrysanthemum ‘Jolie Rose’

The flowers on this woody-based perennial are semi-double with pink petals and a white ring around the yellow centre. The leaves are deep green and aromatic, with flowers appearing from late summer through to autumn.

Best in a bright, sheltered, sunny spot on moist but well-drained soil. This herbaceous perennial is loved by bees and other pollinators but rarely troubled by deer and rabbits. Stake if necessary.

When flowering finishes, cut the plant back to approximately 20cm. This encourages a strong, bushy plant for the following year and protects new shoots emerging from the base. Apply an organic mulch in autumn to protect new growth from frost — it is semi-hardy in the UK and can be lifted in very exposed areas.

The spray-laden stems are excellent for flower arranging.
