Commonly known as Greater Sea Kale or Colewort, Crambe cordifolia is a clump-forming perennial with deep green, lobed foliage. In summer it produces huge, billowing clouds of gypsophila-like white flowers on tall branching stems — a truly imposing sight.
It loves a sunny site with well-drained soil and requires a generous amount of space, its statuesque flower stems adding a bold architectural element to the garden. The leaves can look rather scruffy as the season progresses; planting it towards the back of the border allows other plants to mask the lower foliage.
