Crocus Large Flowered Blue is one of the most charming heralds of spring. Its intense violet-blue flowers sing out in the garden at a time when colour is still scarce — particularly striking planted in combination with other early crocuses, or naturalised in drifts through grass.
It works beautifully in an early spring container, and we particularly like it layered into a bulb lasagne with yellow miniature Narcissus and dark purple or orange tulips — the contrast is vivid and the season of interest impressively long. Plant from September to December, 2.5cm deep in any moist but well-drained soil.
