Plants are dispatched in growing condition and may not be in full flower. If too tall to pack safely, we may cut them back — this helps them establish more quickly. Read our Mail Order FAQs.
Large, double, burnt orange flowers contrast beautifully with dark bronze foliage from July until September. Dahlia ‘David Howard’ was introduced by nurseryman David Howard of Howard’s Nurseries in Norfolk — a chance seedling selected from Dahlia ‘Bishop of Llandaff’.
It thrives in fertile, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. In colder areas, lift, dry and store tubers frost-free once autumn frosts have blackened the foliage. In milder areas tubers can be left in the ground, but protect the crown with a mulch over winter.
Hardiness: H3 — hardy in coastal and relatively mild parts of the UK (−5°C to 1°C)
Height × Spread: 90cm × 60cm
